TEAM TNT (Thad & Tasha Johnson)
THE BEGINNING
Q: What do you get when you couple a former career police commander together with a former career HS/college instructor & counselor?
A: You get Team TNT!
What began as the layout for an empowerment book in the spring of 2009 quickly became a flurry of songs by the end of that summer (so much for our initial plans to move to Puerto Rico and complete that book...well, for now...).
At that time, we were frustrated with who and where we were; we knew we were both in "good" places, but we soon realized that good enough simply wasn't good enough. So, we sold our television and began a fast on August 17, 2009; one in which the sole purpose was to seek God for direction, guidance, and answers to a myriad of questions. Through the fast, the answers began to arise, and they came rapidly. By the end of that week, we wrote our first 10 songs, and it was a purging that neither of us had ever experienced before. It was then that we knew, unequivocally, that we were not simply going to be another set of people chasing their dream to "do music". This was the beginning of a movement, and it was inspired only by the moving of the Holy Spirit, working in and through us during that fast.
FACING OURSELVES
By September (2009), we'd already shared the stage with the likes of Ruby Wilson, Ben Cauley, and Memphis filmmaker George Tillman. By November, we completed our debut 2-CD album set entitled “New Dimension: No Labels”; it took us a total of 4 days (apparently, we had a lot to say!). When you have a moment, feel free to listen to our earlier body of work by visiting the following website: www.cdbaby.com/cd/teamtnt.
When you do hear those songs, it's important to note that each one of them was a reflection of every conversation we were having with the Lord, with each other, and with ourselves. It was a very emotional time mentally, physically, and spiritually. Every word of every song was designed to encourage personal reflection, growth, responsibility and accountability, as well as promoting overall wellness. We talked about God, our personal struggles & hopes, social issues/problems, the concept of humanity, and just about every pressing topic imaginable.
It goes without saying that we are proud of the work that went into our debut CD. We just didn't realize then that we were making one very grave mistake: we wrote those songs with the intention of ministering to people all over the world...well, as we began to undergo some very serious periods of fire of our own, we soon realized that this message was primarily for us. Before we had the nerve to minister to anyone else, we ourselves had to be pruned, molded and shaped for the ministry God had given us.
OUR RE-EMERGENCE
In case you're wondering, there is no one genre that can “define” our message; from contemporary christian to rock to hip-hop to spoken word, we intend to lean no stone unturned! Simply put, we write/sing/talk/rap about everything we experience from our own Christian lens. We now have a brand new set of songs we've written, arranged and produced; we are excited about this new leg of our journey. We are continually growing into our purpose, and we are committed to spreading this movement of change, hope, and inspiration to everyone across the globe.
In light of this revelation, we have been called to leave everything behind in the spirit of discipleship. We are mobile and similar to the callings of Abraham, Moses and Paul, we are stepping out in faith, believing that God will continue to provide as we continue to impart his word in boldness and authority. Through our example, and with the message God has put on our hearts, we want to use our gift of music to start a fire of passion and purpose and watch as it ignites throughout the world…
